Why Millennials Spend Most

Millennials (born 1981-1996) spend more on subscriptions than any other generation — €234/month on average. They adopted subscriptions earliest, have had the longest accumulation period, earn peak professional incomes and have children whose entertainment and education needs add further subscriptions. The Millennial subscription stack typically includes 4+ streaming services, 2+ software tools, 1-2 fitness apps and a mix of news and cloud storage.

Gen Z: Fewer but Growing

Gen Z adults average €112/month on subscriptions — significantly less than Millennials. Gen Z is more comfortable cancelling and re-subscribing (less habit lock-in) and more likely to use free tiers. However, Gen Z subscription spending is growing at 15% annually — the fastest of any group.

Boomers: Lower Count, Different Mix

Baby Boomers average €76/month across 6.4 subscriptions. Their mix is distinctive: less gaming, less fitness apps, more news subscriptions (FT, newspapers), more cloud storage. Boomers over-index on security software and are more likely to pay for premium antivirus subscriptions.
